The New York Times asked each candidate for UNSG to respond to two questions in the form of a short op/ed:
First, we asked them to discuss an avoidable mistake the United Nations had made within the last five years. Second, we asked them what major reform they would undertake as secretary general. Five candidates gave us their answers.

I would love to see RED CARDS for Mr Ban and Korea is trying to resort vote buying!
However, one should elect UNSG rather than resorting to elimination and rejection of others to elect somebody.
Everybody at UN should like SG, but should not be “I don’t hate him”, as I don’t hate him does not mean I like him or I elect him!
Were the people who didnt respond scared to respond? or did they not have any goals for the UN?

UN should learn from the biggest democratic country how to run an election.Dis qualify the candidate whose Government “bought” vote of the SC members.
[…] Ban will never make such an announcement, at least not publicly. Unlike others seeking the role in 2006, Ban did not speak openly about his candidacy the first time and there is no reason to believe he will this time. It would only serve to put his record under more scrutiny and to acknowledge the legitimate possibility of challengers to the traditional second term. The first official word we hear about his candidacy will a Member State praising him as a quiet, deliberative leader that has performed with honor, or such. Even that may not happen unless and until his re-nomination by the Security Council is a done deal, perhaps sometime next summer. So, I’m not holding my breath.
